Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney (DKB), does not want to talk about any bad experience he has had with Charterhouse, again.
The comedian who has always castigated the event organisers for killing the comedy industry in Ghana, now believes his resolve to lash out at Charterhouse has not been appreciated by other comedians.
According to him, during the early days of the new dawn of stand-up comedy in Ghana, Charterhouse pushed a narrative that suggested Ghanaian comedians were not funny.
DKB said even though they were featured on some events organised by Charterhouse, the company did more harm to them, a reason he started doing his own comedy tours.
He said in a Twitter Spaces conversation by Joy FM on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 that he had always been betrayed by the other comedians any time he criticised the company.
DKB therefore retracted all the invective he had rained on Charterhouse, which he claimed was in the collective interest of the comedy industry but not himself.
Venting his spleen on the matter while responding to comic actor Clemento Suarez, he said: “…you who didn’t join the hustle turn around to say that we are being ungrateful to Charterhouse. Charterhouse didn’t do anything wrong. So I want to set the record straight. Charterhouse is the saviour of Ghana comedy, they are ones who have breastfed Ghana comedy to go far. I will never speak about Charterhouse again.”
He was mentioned that “those I am speaking for, those who went through the pain with me, will keep quiet for others to come and demonise me.”
In the wake of DKB’s vitriol against Charterhouse, other comedians such as OB Amponsah, Jacinta and Lekzy DeComic have rather shared great experiences they have had with the event company.
On Joy Entertainment Unpacked, a Twitter Spaces conversation by Joy FM, comic actor Clemento Suarez, condemned DKB’s stance on Charterhouse.
Clemento rather said the event company should be commended for playing a vital role in Ghana’s comedy.
According to him, at the time Ghanaian comedy was gaining a revival, there was always at least one Ghanaian comedian on shows organised by Charterhouse.
‘Joy Entertainment Unpacked’ Twitter Spaces conversation is hosted by Kwame Dadzie Wednesdays on Joy FM’s Twitter handle @joy997fm.
This particular edition also featured comedians like Jacinta, Lekzy DeComic, Lawyer Nti, Foster Romanus and OB Amponsah.
